About Nat Turner
Nat Turner was born on October 2, 1800 on a plantation in Southampton County, Virginia owned by Benjamin Turner. Since his childhood, he was always deeply religious. Some called him a prophet because of his ability to describe events that had occurred before the time of his birth. As he matured, Turner was passed on from slave owner to slave owner several times. When he was around twenty years old, he ran away from Samuel Turner, Benjamin’s brother. However, after one month of living in the forest, he returned because of a sign from God. Years later, with the help of many other slaves, Nat Turner began a revolt. Click here to learn more about it.
